HIIT the Gym to Get SHREDDED this Summer!

Are you interested in a workout that TORCHES more fat in less time than other, more traditional workouts? If so, you are going to want to try high intensity interval training (HIIT)!

What is HIIT?

HIIT is a style of exercise where you alternate between periods of high-intensity intervals (where you push your body as hard as it will go) and periods of low-intensity intervals (where you allow your body to recover).

This type of training is efficient at TORCHING fat because the activity raises your resting metabolic rate for 24-48 hours following your workout. Increasing your resting metabolic rate means you will burn more calories while carrying out your daily responsibilities and burning more calories = burning more fat.

As if burning more calories wasn’t enough, HIIT offers numerous other benefits such as requiring less time than more traditional forms of exercise such as jogging.  According to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), HIIT workouts should last between 20-60 minutes. These workouts are also more exhaustive in comparison to steady endurance workouts, so they should be spread out throughout the week as to leave enough recovery time. This means you will be able to WHIP yourself into shape and see more results with fewer workouts.

Benefits of HIIT

Aside from burning more fat in less time than if participating in traditional exercise, HIIT workouts offer a variety of health benefits including:

– Building a Healthier Heart

Pushing into the anaerobic zone helps to improve endurance and strengthen your heart.

– Losing Weight and Not Muscle

Participating in HIIT allows you to retain muscle while losing weight because the weight      loss comes from fat stores.

– Increasing Metabolism

HIIT encourages production of your human growth hormone (HGH) up to 450 percent  . during the 24 hours following your workout.

– Lowering Cholesterol

Exercise is a great way to keep cholesterol in check but what about someone that has high cholesterol levels? HIIT workouts actually combat high cholesterol because high intensity workouts help to lower bad cholesterol (LDL) and generate good cholesterol (HDL).

– Improving Insulin Sensitivity

This is especially important if you have type 2 diabetes because HIIT workouts help to improve diabetics’ glucose metabolism. Improving insulin sensitivity means the exercising muscles are able to readily use glucose for fuel and to make energy, which helps fight type 2 diabetes.
